Gordon Hayward Once Asked Brad Stevens If It Was Okay To Play In A Halo Tournament

The signing of Gordon Hayward to the Boston Celtics finally added some competition in the East. Unfortunately, Hayward went down with one of the most gruesome injuries in recent years. While he is expected to come back better and ever, there is one very funny story between Hayward and his old college coach, and current coach, Brad Stevens.

Per Rolling Stone,

“When I started getting recruited for basketball, I didn’t really think about it. But there’s a lot of NCAA rules and violations as far as like, making money and doing certain things.

I had to call coach Stevens to ask him if it was okay to play in a Halo tournament. I’m sure that was the last thing he wanted his new recruit to call him about. But he was okay with it and we actually won the tournament. So we won money, which was cool.”

Pretty interesting first impression for Hayward’s college coach I would say. If you didn’t know, Hayward is a prolific gamer who is featured on Best Buy posters. I didn’t believe it at first either until I saw him do commentary on a League of Legends tournament.
