Kyrie Irving’s Game Was Built Practicing Off A Broken Backboard In His Neighborhood

Kyrie Irving is one of the best, if not the best, finishers in the NBA. Combine that with crazy handles and about every move in the book and you have a guy who is a highlight reel every night.

In a video from Bleacher Report, Kyrie Irving talks about how he grew up practicing off a broken background in his neighborhood. Here is what he said:

“I knew I had something special when I started going into gyms and then I see how big the backboard is. You guys have no idea what I been practicing on.”

Kyrie grew up playing off a hoop him and his Dad built together. Over time, a chunk of the background came off. This led Kyrie with 2 options: either only use one side of the hoop or learn how to spin and angle his layups. He chose the latter.
