Boston Celtics star Gordon Hayward was moved to tears when recalling his devastating ankle injury on opening night in an interview with Matt Lauer of the Today show. Hayward broke down the exact moments and thoughts he had from when he was off-balance in the air, to being wheeled to the locker room. The Celtics have not made an official announcement regarding whether Hayward is done for the season, but his agent, Mark Bartelstein, said that it is “very unlikely” Hayward will return during the 2017-18 campaign, per Jimmy Golen of the Associated Press. However, Hayward has been optimistic about the progress he has made so far.
“I’m gonna come back better than ever, and I firmly believe that,” Hayward said. “But I know it’s gonna be a long and difficult process.”
